XXVII REUNION AND XVIV DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
29 April 2010 through 3 May 2010
Once again we will couple the National Reunion with the Day of Remembrance. This combining provides those who wish to mingle with their friends of old over a cool one and also to honor their fallen comrades. For those traveling any distance this is a great idea. This time the reunion has been extended for a day and makes a long journey worth your while, especially if you came from Hawaii. We will meet you, greet you and see that you feel welcome and at home. The hotel van will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. There one of us will meet you and steer you to the hotel registration desk and to the organization registration. You have a choice, if your room is ready you may wish to freshen up, if not, join us in the hospitality room and enjoy the snacks and beverages. The rest of the day you can spend greeting old, or new, friends. The hotel has a nice dining room when if you get hungry and there are nearby eating places.
HOSPITALITY ROOM: For those who joined us in 2008 you know what we offer, we will match that and during the five days present a hospitality room that will rival any that you have seen. You will be able to wet your whistle and munch on goodies. The goodies table will be freshly stocked each day so you can leave the peanuts from the plane in the suitcase
ACCOMMODATIONS: The accommodations we believe will prove to be very comfortable and nice. The hotel has recently completed over a million dollar rehabilitation. It is convenient to the airport, about ten minutes and provides van service at no charge, has nice group rooms, is small enough that you are not a small fish in a large pond, has a nice dining room and if you wish to hop the light rail to the Baltimore Inner Harbor it will get you to the station. And if you feel adventurous, the hotel will take you to the Mark station and that line will take you to Washington. To be assured of the reunion room rate, reservations must be received at the hotel by 30 March 2010.
THURSDAY 29 APRIL The first day will give all a chance to say hello to old friends and show the photos of grand children or great grandchildren. You may even be able to finish the tail end of the story that you were telling when time ran out at the last reunion. Of course you must tax your memory to recall where you left off, but no problem, your audience has probably forgotten it as well. Anyway, that’s the first day. Those who fly, and with the airlines socking for bags, you may be traveling a bit light. No problem, no one will notice if you wear the same duds twice as most of us cannot remember where we parked the car in the lot. We are just happy that we remember that we have a car.
FRIDAY 30 APRIL. The second day we travel to Arlington to pay our respect to not only those who lie in Arlington, but also to our comrades resting in fields far away. At the tomb, we may be most fortunate to have some young school children visiting at the time and you will feel a sense pride as you see the respect shown by these youngsters. A great sight as four of our members place the wreath to the sound of taps. We then will depart for lunch and a memorial service. At this service we will ring the bell for those who passed away between May 2009 and the date of reunion 2010. We will have printed a booklet of the deceased members, 2232 as of 18 August 2009 in the organizations obit files. The years take its toll and in the period of slightly over three and one half months since May 2009, thirty nine members have passed away. There will also be a booklet of the deceased in the organizations obit files. In 2008 we were most fortunate to have our own Father Lawson and Chief of Army Chaplains Reverend Carver as speakers. Hopefully in 2010 we can repeat this program as both are wonderful speakers and deliver great presentations.
We will also have one of the buses visit the three memorials, WWII, Korean and Vietnam. Each of these will probably touch you in a different way. World War II shows a whole nation at war from Rosie the Riveter to GI Joe. It shows the resolve, the sacrifices and the support of a committed country. The Korean, the Forgotten War, shows the drudgery and determination of a group with lugging their individual gear as they trudge along. The group is made up of all services; Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force (see breakdown at the end). And the somberness of the Vietnam War is depicted in the black granite monument with the names of the 58,000 killed or missing in that war. The war that some of our fellow Americans not only did not support but even railed against it in foreign lands. For those who have not seen the memorials it is a great sight. We will make it easy for you to visit and take pictures.
SATURDAY 1 MAY: As of this writing nothing has been programmed but we will work on it. . When the organization was first organized, tours were a piece of cake to put together. But now it is a different ball game. The years have shortened our gate and so we plan events in which all can participate. The big stumbling block is the walking. So many places to see and so many things to do but all need strong legs. So unless all can participate, we will not schedule long walks. We will suggest interesting sights and events for those who can handle it and look into some activities that all can handle.
SUNDAY 2 MAY: As of now an open date.
MONDAY 3 MAY: We will start off the day with a breakfast and immediately thereafter go into the annual general meeting. The breakfast menu is:
